Today we gathered at Hampton Springs - Willow for the Brian Wadsworth Memorial match. It was a warm day with light cloud cover, providing comfortable conditions for everyone on the bank. Before the match commenced, we took a collective moment to remember Brian, reflecting on his contribution to the club and the sport we all enjoy.
Once the match was underway, the competition proved to be a hard-fought affair, characterized by some truly exceptional angling performances throughout the venue. Gary Boydell emerged as the overall winner on the day, putting in a truly dominant display from peg 15 to secure a remarkable total weight of 124 lbs 5 oz.
The day’s fishing was divided into three sections, with some very close competition taking place across the entire field:
Section A: Simon Bayley led the way here, showcasing his skill to take the honours with a weight of 55 lbs 15 oz, which also placed him 4th overall in the match.
Section B: Andy Fletcher claimed the top spot in this section with a very impressive total of 62 lbs 10 oz, earning him a well-deserved 2nd place finish overall.
Section C: It was Gary Boydell who dominated this section as well, with his massive haul of 124 lbs 5 oz securing the section win alongside his overall victory. Tenchy picked up the default section.
Other notable performances included Tenchy, who put in a strong showing at peg 13 to finish 3rd overall with 61 lbs 10 oz, and Andy Lavender, who finished just ounces behind in 5th place with 55 lbs 14 oz.
Looking ahead, the club is now turning its attention to our next upcoming match. We will be heading to Lingmere, where we will be hosting the crucial conclusion of the 3rd round of the Knockout Cup.
