Our latest outing took us to Newbridge Lakes this past Sunday. While the sun was out, the fish certainly weren't in a feeding frenzy, leading to a challenging day across both sections.
It was a day where every ounce truly mattered. In a display of clinical fishing despite the slow sport, Gary Boydell took the top spot.
Gary managed to find the best of it from Peg 3, recording the only double-figure weight of the day besides the runner-up. Mark Davies secured a solid second place from Peg 38 with 12 lbs 11 oz, while Mike Roberts led the way for Section B, rounding out the top three with 9 lbs 12 oz from Peg 20.
To say the weights were low would be an understatement. Over half the field struggled to break the 6 lb mark, with the bottom half of the table separated by mere ounces. In Section B particularly, the fish seemed almost entirely dormant, with three anglers returning less than 6 lbs to the scales.
It was a day for the "scratchers"—those who could eke out a few fish in difficult, high-pressure conditions. Congratulations to Gary on a hard-fought victory; let's hope the fish are a bit more cooperative for our next outing!
