Lingmere - 21st September
After a soaking wet Saturday, the lads turned up to Lingmere on Sunday to find the sun shining and the temperature still pleasantly mild. Spirits were high, but the aftermath of the previous day’s downpour made the fishing a little tricky, with weights clearly affected by the unsettled conditions. Still, there were plenty of bites to be had, and the results sheet shows some cracking performances across the sections.
In Section A, it was all about Mike Roberts on Peg 3. He put an excellent 88 lb 12 oz on the scales to take 1st place overall. Hot on his heels, Syd Taylor produced another fine net from Peg 5, weighing in at 54 lb 2 oz for 2nd place. The rest of the section found it harder going, but there were still steady catches from Andy Fletcher and Tenchy to round things out.
Section B was topped by Simon Bayley on Peg 21 with a strong net of 39 lb, which gave him 4th overall and the section win. Gary Boydell followed with 33 lb 12 oz from Peg 15 for 6th overall. Elsewhere, Wayne Jevons and Brian Siddley found enough bites to keep the section competitive, though the fish didn’t quite switch on for them in numbers.
Section C saw Andy Lavender make the most of Peg 24, catching consistently for 39 lb 7 oz, which earned him 3rd place overall and the section win. Stevie Matthews also had a tidy day with 25 lb 6 oz, while Dave Kell and Ian Myers put together nets just over the 20 lb mark.
All in all, it was another enjoyable match, with the sun making a welcome return and everyone managing a few fish despite Saturday’s heavy rain dampening the lake’s mood. Congratulations to Mike Roberts on a clear win, and well done to all section winners for making the most of the conditions.
Mike also takes a 1-0 lead in the final of the knock out cup against Gary.
